Ángela Leyva (b. 1987 in Mexico City) earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine and Visual Arts from the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Engraving, La Esmeralda (2006-2010) and her Master's degree in Visual Arts (2019-2021) at the Faculty of Art and Design at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Since 2021, she has been pursuing her PhD in Visual Arts at the same institution.
Currently, the work of Ángela Leyva manifests as a deep exploration of identity and memory, combining the emotional representation of distorted faces of patients with congenital disorders with the use of artificial intelligence technologies. Through a mixed technique that includes painting and machine learning, the artist invites the viewer to question the nature of existence, creating characters that challenge the boundaries between the human and the artificial. This fusion leads to a dialogue about the complexity of the human experience, where the real and the virtual intertwine, revealing the internal struggle and essence of identity in a constantly transforming world.
Leyva has participated in numerous group exhibitions in countries such as Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy, and Greece. In Mexico, her work has been showcased in museums such as the Museo Rufino Tamayo, Museo de la Ciudad de México, and Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico, among others. Individually, she has held six solo exhibitions, such as at the Museo de Arte Moderno del Estado de México (2012) and at Galería Textraño, Mexico City (2020).
